Antique Italian Venetian Glass Hand Painted Lidded Pharmacy Apothecary Jars
These rare antique Venetian apothecary glass jars from Italy are in excellent condition (some wear). The elaborate labels are hand-painted. The foot and lid of the glass jars are gilded for this extra touch of luxury.
“SAL-AMON” = sal ammonium or smelling salts
“CROCI” = crosses
“SALE BORACE” = borax
“CHIN-C” = cinchona bark, which contains quinine and is used to treat malaria.
"BARDANA” = burdock, a root that is used as food as well as medicine to treat skin problems, for example.
"DULCAM” = sweets
“CROCUS” = dried stigma of Crocus sativus. This crocus plant is commonly called saffron, the world’s most expensive spice.
