A beautiful and highly decorative seven-piece Louis Comfort Tiffany Favrile glass serving set, comprising one larger central bowl accompanied by six matching smaller individual bowls, dating to approximately 1910.
Each piece is hand-blown in luminous iridescent Favrile glass and formed with an elegant deeply ruffled or crimped rim, creating a wonderfully organic floral silhouette. The set displays the remarkable surface effects for which Tiffany’s Favrile glass became internationally celebrated, with shifting tones of gold, amber, bronze, champagne, green, violet, rose and blue appearing as the pieces move through changing light.
The larger central bowl serves as the focal point of the group, surrounded by six smaller bowls of complementary form. While conceived as a unified set, no two pieces are completely identical in their iridescence. Each exhibits subtle variations in colour, surface texture and lustre resulting from the hand-blown process and metallic iridescent treatment characteristic of Tiffany Favrile glass.
The interiors range from glowing honey-gold and amber to pale silvery-gold, while the folded rims display cooler flashes of blue, violet and green. The exterior surfaces have a softer bronze-gold lustre, giving the entire ensemble tremendous depth and visual movement.
